While I didn't want to clutter the events section with too many LBCC-related threads, I did want to have a separate thread to discuss the charity raffle. Specifically I wanted to get folks to chime in on two things:
1. If any of you have or are willing to pick up any items to donate for the raffle, please post up. Anything Doctor Who works! Although if it's something that's commercially sold, unless it's a rare collectible of some sort, it ought to be new in its packaging.
(I will plan to pick up and donate one of the sonic screwdriver toys. If I can manage to make something cool that's good enough in quality that someone would want, I'll donate that as well.)
2. To what charity should we donate the proceeds? Suggestions so far have included: DS Action (a Downs' Syndrome advocacy group), or a charity promoting autism awareness. Shawn suggested a food bank that participates in the program where they provide backpacks full of canned food for kids (we could call it our "bigger on the inside" backpack event!).
We'd love other ideas!

If you're running a raffle, even for donations to a charity, you need to make sure you can legally do so. I know here in Texas there are very strict rules on raffles.

Thank you - I will look into it but my understanding from the con organizers is that is fine by them. Will see if there are additional hoops we may have to jump through. I'll also ask the folks that run The Dark Empire (Sith costuming group) because I know they did a charity raffle at LBCC las lt year.

You're welcome. One of the groups I'm a member of held a raffle at a Texas con and didn't know that there were strict rules. Someone did question them but I can't recall who did. I think (from reading the CA rules) that you'd be okay as long as the donation is optional. But I'm not sure if you'd have to register on their website. Their rules are even stricter than the Texas rules.
